The latest addition to this collection honors the Year of the Tiger, the third animal in the twelve-year lunar cycle, celebrated in 2022.
The ancient Chinese Lunar Calendar, which dates back to before 2,600 BC, is considered one of the oldest chronological records in history. This calendar is based on the phases of the new moon and assigns a different animal to each year in a 12-year cycle.
According to legend, the order of the animals in the Chinese Zodiac was determined by a race across a river. The clever mouse, unbeknownst to the tiger, hitched a ride on its back and leaped ahead at the last moment to win the race. The tiger, along with the rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig, followed the mouse and ox to the finish line.
In Chinese culture, each zodiac animal is believed to influence the personality traits of those born under its sign. People born in the Year of the Tiger are thought to have a calm exterior that hides a courageous and competitive nature. Known for their charm, affection, and passion, "tiger" personalities are natural leaders who take risks and remain optimistic, confident that they will always land on their feet. The tiger is a symbol of power and daring.
