2012 Royal Australian Mint Southern Sky Crux Domed $5 Coloured Silver Proof Coin

The Crux constellation, also known as the Southern Cross, is one of the smallest yet brightest constellations in the southern night sky. Its distinctive cross shape, from which it derives its Latin name, is now beautifully represented on Australia's first domed coin, a $5 piece struck in 99.9% pure silver by the Royal Australian Mint.

This innovative color-printed coin is presented in a unique tin case, with an insert that allows the coin to be displayed upright. Recognized for its design, this coin won the Krause Publication 2014 Coin of the Year Award for Best Crown Coin.
